The Intertops casino resort in British Columbia is about to get an upgrade.
On Wednesday, the province announced the purchase of more than 10 million dollars worth of property for the resort.
The casino, which was built in the mid-1970s, has a seating capacity of 2,600 people.
It is one of only two hotels in Canada with two full-service casinos, the other being the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Vancouver.
The new casino will house more than 5,000 people, and is expected to generate $40 million in revenue.
“We have been investing in the Intertop since it opened in 1996,” said Stephen Pritchard, the executive director of the British Columbia Gaming and Entertainment Commission.
“It is a very special facility for the province.”
The province’s investment is part of a larger $1.2 billion investment in the resort, including a new resort-class hotel, two casino floors, a casino food court and a new gaming floor.
The resort was originally built as a single-family home on the same site in 1966, but it expanded into a condominium building.
The condominium project was completed in 2008 and included a $6 million gaming floor, which has since been turned into a casino.
The gaming floor will remain open until 2021.
The Intertops also has two restaurants, a cinema, a bar, a bowling alley, a rooftop lounge, an art gallery and a sports bar.
